FAQ

Who/What is CSGO?
CSGO is the Computer Science Graduate Organization. It is the student body that represents the graduate student community in the CS department (If you hadn't alreay figured that out from the name!) at the University of Southern California.

Am I a part of CSGO?
If you are a Grad or PhD student in the CS Dept, you automatically belong to CSGO. Yes, its that easy. Yes, you don't have to do a thing! Yes, it's free!

What does CSGO do?
CSGO organizes fun events all semester round. Events that allow students to come together, get to know each other and share experiences. Ice cream socials on the lawn outside SAL on a hot summer day, movie nights with popcorn, welcome to school parties and anything that you suggest. All that aside, CSGO also organizes PhD socials, talks with the Dept faculty, mixers that allow you to give and get feedback about classes and syllabi.

How does CSGO do all this?
CSGO is part of the Student Involvement program at USC, and as such gets funds from the various umbrella organizations, to enrich students' lives at USC.

Can I get more information about these student organizations?
Sure, just go to http://sait.usc.edu/ca

So what can CSGO do for me?
CSGO's main aim is to foster a sense of belonging among the CS students. And an important part of this is making sure that any concerns they have are addressed, not just by the student body, but also the Dept. Any issues we come across or those you bring to our notice are related to the Dept. Chair, Dr. Ramesh Govindan (who is also the CSGO Advisor). The idea is to facilitate communication between the Students and Faculty.

How does CSGO relate stuff to the Faculty and Staff
By organizing socials. These are open to Faculty, Staff and Student, and are meant to promote interaction among these groups. So if you have a problem, be there and say it out loud.

How do I subscribe for CSGO information?
If you don't already get e-mails from the dept. list-serve, please request to be added to the mailing list. Send out an e-mail to 'siriamar@usc.edu'.

How do I contact CSGO?
By sending us e-mails at 'csgo@pollux.usc.edu'.

How do I get in touch with other CSGO members?
By posting messages in the newsgroup: usc.org.csgo

Can I be of any help?
Oh yes please! We are always grateful for a helping hand. Just swing by at any of our meetings or events. There will always be interesting people to meet, and things to be done.

Can I be a part of the CSGO Executive Committee?
Of course! We are people just like you! You can join CSGO committees anytime, or even get elected to one of the Officer posts. All you have to do is, run in the elections. And the first step to doing that, is filling in the Intent to Run form and e-mailing it to us. Just shout out to one of the current officers, and we'll help you out.
